December and the end of the semester is rapidly approaching! This semester has flown by and I’ve had a ball making updates and revisions to my domain. During Tuesday’s class, we began to think about our Final Portfolio and what we’ve done throughout the semester to build it. My Final Portfolio is the documentation of DGST 101 on this domain, and I’m very pleased with it! It’s been difficult to keep updating it, but I do believe I’ll look back on it with fondness and appreciate how it’s shaped my Digital Identity!

Over the next couple of class periods, we’re discussing each others podcasts. I was unsure as to whether or not this would be a time to critique the podcasts or just to regurgitate what we’ve learned from them. Either way, I definitely think some of the podcasts were strong, while others were lacking. But I think improvement could’ve been made in one way or another on all of the podcasts, myself included! The topics were incredibly interesting, ranging from identity theft to cars. There was even a discussion about self-driving vehicles in class, which I am all for but was surprised to learn that some people don’t like the idea of them.
My Podcast Project was all about Digital Animation! I created it using Adobe Premiere. You can listen to it below!
Over the weekend, I determined the topic of my podcast. I’m currently in an Animation class and I’ve always been interested in the topic, so naturally, that was what I decided! The first roadblock I encountered was that the topic and history of animation is so vast that it would be impossible to cover everything in an academic minute (which I’ve since learned is not an exact 60 seconds, but rather several minutes). So, I narrowed my topic down to modern day, digital animation. I’m quite excited about it!
I already have a solid foundation of knowledge about digital animation from my classes and in general, but I did additional research in class yesterday and actually learned some new information!
For my Augmented Reality Project, I created an informative video about Lisa Frank that played back when the Aurasma software detected the Lisa Frank Penguin Coloring Page in the 90s set up on the fourth floor of the Hurley Convergence Center. This week, we discussed storyboarding! I was surprised to find that I was the only person in class who knew what storyboarding was, because I thought it was common knowledge that visual planning went into creative works prior to their end result. Perhaps it’s the art major in me, but I’m used to making all sorts of storyboards!
I developed a storyboard for my Lisa Frank Augmented Reality project, and decided to make an informative video for it. Lots of people know Lisa Frank’s artwork, especially kids who grew up in the 80s and 90s, but I don’t think that they know it was her who created it. I want to give some insight to that!
For the past several classes, we have been talking about Pokemon Go! and Augmented Reality. If I had to compare my knowledge and digital literacy of Pokemon Go! to an actual Pokemon, it would have to be a Level 1 Rattata because I know nothing about it and am useless when it comes to it. I downloaded the app when it first came out, but then quickly decided it wasn’t worth learning and deleted it shortly thereafter.
However, I do have some knowledge about AR. Granted, it’s not a vast amount of knowledge, and I didn’t even know I had it until this class, but I know the basics. I do have a Snapchat and actively use it, and am always amused at the dancing hotdog dude and the wiggly purple guy. I didn’t know that was considered AR until we learned about it in class!
I’m also a big fan of Marvel (specifically Tony Stark aka Iron Man), so it was also really nifty to learn that the movie scenes with him and his HUD (heads up display) was AR also!
For my Culture Module Project, I went with the Selfie Culture Module. The Suggested Task I decided to complete from the Selfie Module was the task titled “Branding and Celebrity.”
